Wedding Trends for 2014
This article explores the new trends in food, flowers, and decor!
From Waco Today

The rustic wedding theme is getting a cosmopolitan update in 2014, according to the experts. “People are tired of the shabby-chic thing, so they’re going for an old world glamour kind of vibe,” says Sara Burnett, the editor of wedding-inspiration blog Burnett’s Boards.

Peonies are the flowers of the moment, and the bigger the better to make a statement piece that pops. Round out a peony bouquet with fillers like roses and hydrangeas. Tulips are a hot flower that can stand on their own in a vase. Read more.

Meet our new Willow Writer, Melissa! Read her awesome love story!

December 20, 2013 at 2:41 pm (Willow Writers) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi there! My name is Melissa and I am a Willow Room bride-to-be! Our wedding will be November 8, 2014, and my fiancé Chad and I couldn’t be more excited! From the moment we first walked into The Willow Room, we knew it was everything we had dreamed of. I am so grateful to have been asked to share our adventure with you all! It couldn’t be a more perfect time for me to start, because it was just this time of year, my favorite time of the year, when it all began.

New year’s Eve/Our fourth official date

New year’s Eve/Our fourth official date

So… I’ll start at the beginning. Ironically, Chad and I first met just before the holidays two years ago, being set up by a mutual friend, Joe.  We had met a few times before and we had even worked for the same company for a short time, me in Human Resources and Chad in Industrial Safety. We knew each other well enough to exchange awkward yet polite “hellos” or “good mornings” on the rare occasions when we passed in the hallway, but that was the extent of our relationship.  Chad left the company to become a partner in a consulting business and every so often I would ask Joe how he was doing, and Chad would do the same. So finally, on December 15th 2011, Joe asked us both to meet him for dinner.  That night, I walked into the restaurant and Chad was the first person I saw, our eyes locked, and just like in the movies, it was magic.  A week later, we went on our first “real” date (just the 2 of us this time)  and it was the best first date I could have ever imagined. It was as if we had known each other our entire lives, and we actually shut the restaurant down because neither one of us wanted the night to ever end. From that day on, we were practically inseparable.  After about four months of dating, I knew I had found the one.

Seven months down, the first vacation with my family. That’s our dog Lucy :)

Seven months down, the first vacation with my family. That’s our dog Lucy 🙂

Fast-forward 13 months to a snowy Sunday afternoon in January 2013.  Over a quick lunch at Chipotle that day, out of the blue Chad said to me that he wanted to plan a trip.  I had started back to school at Seton Hill the fall prior, and full-time work and full-time school can take a toll on a girl, especially in mid-January. So of course, I immediately fell in love with the thought of a warm sandy beach or just any change of scenery. We synced our schedules and realized the best time for us to go would be the 1st week of April, my spring break and also the week of my birthday.

After the dates were set, I had no involvement in the vacation planning process; in fact I had no idea where in the world we were even going, the entire trip was a complete surprise. It became a bit of a game between us as to where we were going, Chad would joke that it was somewhere even colder than we are. But finally, after 2 ½ months of waiting, we were off and when we got to the airport that morning, it was finally revealed that we were going to St. Martin.

We immediately fell in love with the entire island and on the 3rd day of the trip, my birthday, we decided to take a sunset dinner cruise to a little French restaurant on the other side of the island. After a PERFECT evening, we headed back to our resort. Chad asked me to take a walk with him down to the beach. As we stood in the sand and stared at the ocean, he got down on one knee and proposed! It was the greatest night of my life!!

On the Sunset Harbor cruise, just a few hours before he proposed!!

On the Sunset Harbor cruise, just a few hours before he proposed!!

Now he we are, just one short week away from Christmas, and we’ve been engaged for over eight months already!! The time has flown by quite quickly.

We’ve done some planning, but we still have lots to go, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Willow Writer Renee Talks Flashbox!

December 19, 2013 at 2:04 pm (Willow Writers) (, , , , , , , , , )

Flashbox Films – http://www.theflashbox.com/

Mom and I attended a bridal show last winter.  I never expected to leave the show with knowing exactly who was going to be our DJ, photographer, and videographer.  As mom and I were walking though the booths, a gentleman came up to us and asked us if we ever heard of Flashbox Films.  We said no, and he proceeded to tell us exactly what they do.  They are a superior way to capture your wedding day on videography.

Flashbox

Flashbox

Lorenzo and I knew we wanted to have something unique at our wedding and instead of the normal photo booth couples are doing, we opted for Flashbox.  They will have folks doing the normal videography, but to make it unique they will have a kiosk at your venue that people can go up to and record a personal message.  Instead of a human videographer coming up to you and shoving a microphone in your face, it is entirely up to you if you want to record a message.  Also, you are talking into a TV screen instead of having someone else hear your message so it can be very intimate and personal without feeling embarrassed of a stranger hearing it.  It is on wheels so they will even bring it out on the dance floor and catch people having a blast singing and dancing.  We can’t wait for our guests to use Flashbox and we are super excited to watch our wedding video and hear all the personal messages we receive.

Wedding Flowers
The No. 1 Way to Ensure Your Wedding Flowers Look Fresh, Not Floppy
Article from Glamour

Wedding flowers, like all fresh flowers, have a limited shelf life. Once your florist takes your flowers out of their temperature-controlled room, you can start the countdown to when they’ll start drooping.

To ensure your wedding flowers aren’t already on their way downhill when your ceremony kicks off, ask your florist to hold off on the flower delivery until the last possible minute.

Think about when you’ll actually NEED your wedding flowers: If you’re taking photos before the ceremony, do you want your flowers in the pics? If so, ask the florist to arrive when photos are about to start. (You can take flower-free photos while the groomsmen are getting their boutonnieres pinned on.) If you don’t care about preserving your flowers on film, ask the florist to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the ceremony; give her a little more wiggle room if your ceremony has a complicated floral setup.

Also: In your first conversation with your florist, ask her to raise a red flag if you request any droop-prone blooms, such as cosmos and some types of wildflowers. And double-check that she’s using a hydration solution, like this one, to help your blooms retain water after they’re cut.

Wedding Cakes
Wedding Cakes That Are Almost Too Pretty To Eat
Article from The Huffington Post

Cutting the wedding cake is a tradition most brides and grooms look forward to on the Big Day — and saving a slice to enjoy together on the one-year anniversary is practically a rite of passage.

But the wedding cakes featured in the latest issue of New York Weddings, are almost too pretty to cut into. Almost. See more pictures and read article here.

Wedding Shoes
Harry Potter Themed Stilettos Exist (And We Want Them)
Article from The Huffington Post

According to the post, the shoes were hand painted by the bride’s sister-in-law for the Big Day. As to who wore what? The bride got to rock the black Harry Potter and Hogwarts stilettos, while the bridesmaids each wore a pair representing the four houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Luckily, he who shall not be named never RSVP’d.

Single Female
In the case of a single female guest, it is proper to use Ms. if she is over age 16 or 18. If she is younger, than Miss is the acceptable choice.
