Sweet 16 Party: Breakfast At Tiffany’s Theme

August 6, 2015 at 6:00 pm (Event Planning Tips) (, , , , , , , )

Darlings! Turning 16 doesn’t happen every day – make it a big one with a Breakfast at Tiffany‘s themed soiree. The 1961 romantic comedy about a café society girl is the perfect backdrop for a coming-of-age party – no expensive blue boxes required!

Invitations
Tiffany & Co.’s font may be just as iconic as their signature shade of blue. The good news is, both are easier to replicate than you might think. For a fun twist on the jeweler, title your party with the birthday girl’s name instead of Tiffany.

Or use something as simple as a silhouette of the film’s star, Audrey Hepburn.

Of course if it’s Holly Golightly’s classic style you’re after, ask guests to don their pearls and black cocktail dresses. Crowned updo and cigarette holder not required, but certainly a bonus!

Décor
Black, white and blue all over! Use any combination of those three colors and no one will have a doubt in their mind as to what the theme is. Many craft stores sell the same shade of Tiffany blue for items like plates and napkins and even in paint if you want to try your hand at homemade jewelry boxes.

There are plenty of noteworthy, girly quotes both from the film and Audrey Hepburn, herself. Make one the theme of the night!

Food
Sweet treats will likely be the name of the game – after all, it is a “sweet 16!” Desserts are also the easiest – and most natural looking when blue – food for guest to enjoy. Don a dessert table with cupcakes, cake pops, candy and other sweets dipped and frosted in blue and white.

Favors
Send guests home with souvenirs of Miss Golightly’s lifestyle – photo booth props like sunglasses, pearls or a sleeping mask are all iconic and memorable.

Or hit up the dollar store for inexpensive dress up pearls and sunglasses. With or without a photo booth, these will make for some great pictures!

We would love to see photos from your event!

Gender Reveal Party: Ideas!

July 22, 2015 at 4:47 pm (Event Planning Tips) (, , , , , , )

How many true surprises do we get in life? Revealing the gender of your baby is one of the few times you can be completely in the dark on such a momentous occasion until you’re ready to find out. Here are a few ways to celebrate finding out with a gender reveal party or baby shower.

Invitations
Deciding on a cute play on words for your invitations won’t be hard – there are as many variations announcing the theme of your party as you can imagine. These are easy to do DIY, find on Etsy, already made or custom order.

Take Your Pick!
Once your guests arrive, greet them with fun games to cast their vote on whether you’re having a boy or a girl.

For a fun, casual game ask the mommy-to-be which in the list of old wives’ tales she’s experienced. Tally up the predictions and see if they’re right at the reveal!

The Big Reveal
Again, there are many, many ways to reveal to guests what you’re having. Often times, you will have to recruit someone else sworn to secrecy to incorporate the blue or pink into the reveal. If you’re thinking a cake with the color hidden inside, have the doctor write the baby’s sex on a slip of paper and give it to the bakery or person making the dessert.

Everybody likes to be a winner! Let guests scratch off their guess and see if they’re right.

Just as exciting – release balloons from a box on the count of three or release confetti from an opaque balloon or piñata. Bonus points if you get other siblings in on it!

Graduation Party Ideas!

May 14, 2015 at 1:12 pm (Event Planning Tips) (, , , , , , , , )

With June just around the corner, high school seniors are a few short months away from embarking on the next chapter of their lives. Whether it be college, military or entering the work force, a celebration is surely in store. And while pool parties and barbeques will be thrown in their honor, marking the occasion with an indoor soiree is a fabulous option. After all, Mother Nature is unpredictable and no one wants to spend a sweltering afternoon outdoors or worse – get caught in the rain.

From party décor to the menu, the ways to celebrate your grad are a plenty.

Food

It’s a year they’ll never forget. Wow your guests with a dessert table to spell it out.

Fun

Let your grad take the memories of their high school years – and those who came to honor it – with them by having guests sign Jenga pieces.

Or have them sign the pages of their favorite childhood book.

Grab an extra large t-shirt (or two) from the bookstore at their prospective college and have guests sign it as a going away gift. This is one piece of laundry that’s sure to never end up in the hamper.

While renting a photo booth might be a stretch, creating a backdrop stocked full of fun props will keep the party going.

5 Apps To Download Today To Help With Wedding Planning

March 26, 2015 at 1:25 pm (Event Planning Tips) (, , , , , , , )

Apps. We sure do use a lot in our everyday lives. Our phones probably house pages of apps ranging from ones that help us with banking and mail to those for games and messaging.

We compiled 5 helpful apps for wedding planning! And a few of these are just great in general for any type of event planning!

1. EverNote
Share notes with your bridesmaids, your future spouse, or just yourself. Stay organized with color coding options and check off items as they are completed. Even plan notes for months ahead of time, ensuring you stay on track.

2. WeddingWire
This is really a family of apps. Apps for managing your budget and guest list; apps to search and compare vendors; apps to browse wedding dresses; and even social apps where you can share event details and collect your guests’ photos from the actual wedding day!

3. Venmo
This is a free app for sharing payments. Just connect your bank account, have your bridesmaids or groomsman download the app and do the same and now you all have easy access to send payments safely and securely to one another. This comes in handy so no one has to worry about writing checks. If you purchased all of the bridesmaid dresses or tuxes, this is an easy way to collect the money from your bridal party with ease.

4. Gracious Eloise
This app helps you create handwritten notes digitally! Their site relays “our technology replicates the unique characteristics of any handwriting. Once your digital handwriting and personalized stationery are loaded onto our web app, you can start typing handwritten notes right away. Take ten minutes to complete our handwriting sample form and you can ditch the pen forever!” This is great for sending a quick note to thank your vendors or even compose thank you notes for your wedding guests.

5. Zola
“Zola is an all-in-one, flexible registry that allows you to register for beautiful gifts, memorable experiences, cash/honeymoon funds and anything from any store.” With many couples already owning most of the standard registry items like things for the kitchen or other housewares, this gives guests a chance to give the couple cash or gifts that can go right towards the honeymoon!

There are so many wonderful planning apps available. If you have any you think we should add to this list, please comment below!

As you may know, we have partnered with a select group of vendors who we refer to as our “preferred vendors.” Our couples have the choice to work with whomever they like, but our suggestions and connections are vendors that we have worked with throughout the years that we know bring excellent quality service!

Bethel Bakery is our preferred bakery and they are celebrating 60 years in business!bethel_bakery

“People travel for miles for a taste of Bethel Bakery’s signature buttercream icing and discriminating brides across the region wouldn’t dream of celebrating their nuptials with anything but a hand-crafted, custom-designed Bethel Bakery cake decorated by one of the shop’s  talented designers.”

Check out this commercial and take a peak into Bethel’s wedding parlor. It is a one-of-a-kind in Pittsburgh!

We just adore the cake designs that Bethel has created. If you are looking for a truly unique and personalized cake experience, take a look at some of their creations below.

Corporate Events at The Willow Room

December 17, 2014 at 5:56 pm (Event Planning Tips) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Here at The Willow Room, we are much more than just weddings. We host all sorts of events, and we will start highlighting some of the ones we hold and the options you have as a client!

We host many corporate events throughout the year, such as chamber luncheons, fundraisers, fashion shows, training and seminars, hiring events and job fairs.

Since our ballroom can be sectioned off into three rooms, or used as a whole, we can accommodate very small groups, or a massive training for 400 guests.

CorporateAbove, the ballroom is set up in a classroom style setting for a PowerPoint presentation, with beverages and food, as well. Whether you are looking for just coffee and bagels, or a full scale lunch, we have menus for every need. We feature two flush-mounted projection screens with audio and video inputs throughout the ballroom and light filtering and room darkening blinds.

We also have wired or wireless microphones, podiums, and a stage.

Corporate_5 Corporate_4

Above, the ballroom is set in a different style, offering a more intimate table setting, and use of the stage for additional seating. Perfect for featuring guests of honor, board members, etc.

But don’t take our word for it. Gina Lynn, Executive Director of the Greater Rostraver Chamber of Commerce, sent us this awesome quote, along with some of her photos!

The Greater Rostraver Chamber of Commerce hosts many events at The Willow Room during the year. Monthly luncheons are attended by 40 guests on average and the lunch menu is always new and varied, which regular attendees appreciate. The service is outstanding and our guest speakers are happy to have access to the drop down screen for their presentations.

Our annual Recognition Dinner which is attended by 100+ guests features a more upscale setting. The venue ambiance, beautifully displayed hors d’ oeuvre tables, and delicious dinner selections add to the experience offered to our honorees and guests.

The annual Ladies Night Out event brings a totally different level of excitement and fun to our guests and members. The ballroom is transformed into a shopping space with a variety of vendors promoting their products and services. This year’s theme, Vintage Charm – Vogue Attitude, Fun and Fashions through the Decades was incorporated throughout the room with a stage display, decade favorites played by the DJ, a candy bar featuring old-time candies and cocktails and hors d’ oeuvres that were popular back in the day.
