Groom Style!

October 16, 2015 at 5:24 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

The wedding industry has no qualms about making a big to-do about the dress. And while it certainly can be a centerpiece to the entire wedding, there is something to be said for a sharp-dressed groom. Gone are the days when it’s as simple as a tux. Grooms and their groomsmen’s style now ranges from ultra casual to classic black. Here are a few ways to break from tradition and give your wedding day look a personal touch.

Since black-tie isn’t for everyone, many grooms are now choosing to go with a cotton or linen suit and opt for simple white shirts or a pattern that can be dressed up, like gingham.

If it’s a more timeless look you’re after, you can’t go wrong with a matching tie and pocket square. These can coordinate well with bridesmaids’ attire, too!

One way to tie in some personal flair is through cufflinks. Sometimes just a peek of fun is all it takes to set your style apart – these make great groomsmen gifts, too!

And don’t forget about those kicks! Another great gift (and a more comfortable way to spend the day!) is by swapping out dress shoes for sneakers or boat shoes.

What special touches did the grooms in your life choose?

Willow Writer Melissa found her shoes!

July 14, 2014 at 7:47 pm (Willow Writers) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Happy Summer Everyone!!

It’s now July and that means in just 4 short months, Chad and I will be married! I have a feeling these last 4 months will not only be the busiest months of our engagement, but definitely also the best! Last week, Chad and I went to the Outer Banks for the 4th of July and we came home much more relaxed and recharged and ready to plan! So here’s what we have going on.

So in my last post 2 months ago, I was having a bit of trouble finding jewelry and shoes for not only me, but my bridesmaids as well, but recently I checked that all of my list. Here’s a picture of my shoes, I love them because the wedge makes them extremely comfortable and the bow in the back is absolutely adorable. They remind me of a ballerina slipper, but a little more daring.

Since we returned home from vacation, we’ve started the process of ordering our invitations. Since many of our guests will be from out-of-town, we wanted to try to send our invites out a little sooner than the typical 6-8 week deadline, to allow them to make travel arrangements. We are working with the incredible team at RSVP in Greensburg, and I highly recommend them. They have been so helpful, they are pretty much creating custom invites from scratch, in addition to helping with the wording, proper etiquette, etc.  Our invites will be white, with blue script to match our colors and I can’t wait to see them when they are done.

So the next few weeks I’ll be starting to work on some new things that I am so excited about. First up, we are meeting with McShane’s Florist to discuss our centerpieces. Our theme is taking shape to be what I call a “Frosted Fairytale,” think Cinderella’s castle covered in snow. So for centerpieces, I would like to combine white flowers in a low fluffy ball like shape, like a snow ball almost, mixed in with frosted branches and candlelight.  I’ve been thinking about bouquets for my bridesmaids and I, and would like them to match the centerpieces but perhaps with different flowers.

I have lots of details that need to be worked on still, I’ll keep you all posted!

Willow Writer Melissa needs some advice on all things ACCESSORIES!

May 21, 2014 at 12:48 pm (Willow Writers) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hello everyone! Well here we are in mid-May, and we are down to the final six months to go! Because Chad and I have been engaged for a year already, the planning process has been at a slow but steady pace…. until now. Now I’ve gotten to the point where I’m beginning to have nightmares about various wedding day disasters but most of all, not being prepared. For example, one night I dreamt that it was the morning of the wedding and I realized I had forgotten to book a hair and makeup team. Not a complete disaster but still pretty stressful. Needless to say, the next morning that was something immediately, checked off my list. So far in the month of May, I’ve stepped up my game, making sure I accomplish at least one major “to-do” a week.

So today I’m going to share with you one of the most time-consuming and perplexing to-do’s I’ve encountered in the last year. The search for the perfect accessories!  Since my last post, the majority of our planning time has been devoted to shopping for Mom’s, bridesmaid’s and flower girl dresses. I have a pretty large bridal party, 7 bridesmaids, 1 junior bridesmaid and 1 flower girl, so finding and ordering dresses for everyone has been a bit of a daunting task, especially when 2 of my girls, my sisters, live out-of-state, as well as my mom and step-mom, and Chad’s mom lives about an hour and a half drive away from us, as well.

So…. now comes the task of choosing accessories. Like most girls, I love shoes and I have a closet full of them. But choosing the most perfect shoe to wear on my wedding day has been one of the most difficult items for me to check off. Do I wear white to match my dress or navy blue? Pointed toe or peep toe?  Jeweled, feathered or plain?  And it’s not just the shoes; it’s all of the accessories…. the veil, hair piece or no hair piece, the jewelry, studs or chandelier earrings, heirloom pieces or something new? What sort of jewelry should my bridesmaids wear? Also, with our wedding being in November, should my girls and I have faux fur capes or wraps for outdoor pictures? There are so many choices, and perhaps that’s the real problem I’m facing, that there are too many possibilities to pick from! It’s becoming harder to choose the accessories then it was to pick the dress!! Has anyone else had the same problem?

So, in addition to my continuous shoe search, I have lots on the calendar for the next month! My mom and I are planning to meet with our florist this weekend, and we also plan to decide on invitations soon, which I’m so excited to do! I’ll keep you all posted! Talk to you soon!

WW Melissa found her bridesmaid dresses ~ See how Pippa Middleton fits in this blog!

March 10, 2014 at 5:45 pm (Wedding Planning Tips) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hello everyone! Well here we are in March already and now only eight months to go until our Wedding! It’s hard to believe it’s getting so close, so quickly. When we got engaged in April of last year, it seemed an 18 month-long engagement was such a long time to wait, but the time has really flown by so quickly. We have been extremely busy and sometimes I can’t believe how we fit in wedding planning with our already too full schedules, but I’m having a blast doing it all.

Over the past ten months or so, we have checked off quite a few of the big to-do’s on our list. It has been difficult at times, being that I grew up in the Washington, DC area, and my parents still live there so not having my Mom here is definitely a challenge. Luckily I have a close Aunt who lives nearby who has helped tremendously, as well as the girls in my bridal party. We booked a lot of our vendors as early as possible to make sure we booked the top vendors that we wanted. We have our photographer, our DJ, limo, and of course our amazing venues, our beautiful church and The Willow Room. I ordered my dress from MB Bride in Greensburg, and I loved every minute of the dress shopping process. I wish I could wear them all, but the dress I chose was absolutely perfect. It was not at all the style I thought I would want, but my friend who is the receiving manager at MB Bride picked it out for me. The second I put it on, I knew it was the one!!

Recently, bridal party attire has been my main focus. We picked our colors first, mostly shades of whites and grays accented with deep navy blue, which is my favorite color. We chose November because we wanted to have frosted/wintery theme, but more about that later. We chose the tuxes first, which helped me a lot when I was looking for our bridesmaid dresses; I wanted the colors and formality to flow together well. I found a picture on Pinterest of bridesmaid dresses that I immediately fell in love with, midnight blue dresses with a lace top and delicate cap sleeves. I showed the picture to Sarah, my friend from MB Bride, and once again she found the perfect dress! The dress is by Jim Hjelm, and it was actually inspired by/ designed after the world-famous “Pippa” dress! I absolutely love it.

Next on the agenda is looking for Mother’s dresses for my mom, Chad’s mom and my stepmom which I can’t wait to do. I also need to start shopping for accessories as well, like my shoes, veil and jewelry. It’s so exciting to see that as the big things get checked off, the little details are beginning to take shape. Having the bridesmaid’s dresses picked has really helped me to see how to the theme is coming together.  Eight months to go and lots more to do!!

Wedding Flowers
The No. 1 Way to Ensure Your Wedding Flowers Look Fresh, Not Floppy
Article from Glamour

Wedding flowers, like all fresh flowers, have a limited shelf life. Once your florist takes your flowers out of their temperature-controlled room, you can start the countdown to when they’ll start drooping.

To ensure your wedding flowers aren’t already on their way downhill when your ceremony kicks off, ask your florist to hold off on the flower delivery until the last possible minute.

Think about when you’ll actually NEED your wedding flowers: If you’re taking photos before the ceremony, do you want your flowers in the pics? If so, ask the florist to arrive when photos are about to start. (You can take flower-free photos while the groomsmen are getting their boutonnieres pinned on.) If you don’t care about preserving your flowers on film, ask the florist to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the ceremony; give her a little more wiggle room if your ceremony has a complicated floral setup.

Also: In your first conversation with your florist, ask her to raise a red flag if you request any droop-prone blooms, such as cosmos and some types of wildflowers. And double-check that she’s using a hydration solution, like this one, to help your blooms retain water after they’re cut.

Wedding Shoes
Harry Potter Themed Stilettos Exist (And We Want Them)
Article from The Huffington Post

According to the post, the shoes were hand painted by the bride’s sister-in-law for the Big Day. As to who wore what? The bride got to rock the black Harry Potter and Hogwarts stilettos, while the bridesmaids each wore a pair representing the four houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Luckily, he who shall not be named never RSVP’d.

In this case, it is proper to use Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wooley. Spell out the husband’s first name. If you decide to include the husband’s middle name, it should be spelled out, not abbreviated as an initial.

Single Female
In the case of a single female guest, it is proper to use Ms. if she is over age 16 or 18. If she is younger, than Miss is the acceptable choice.
